Amarillo, Canyon high schools compete in 2024 Pantex Science Bowl

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – High school students from Amarillo and the High Plains region are planning to participate in the Pantex Regional High School Science Bowl at AmTech Career Academy on Saturday, in hopes of advancing to the Department of Energy’s 34th National Science Bowl in April.

According to information from the DOE, eight high schools from Amarillo, Canyon and Lubbock are expected to participate in the Saturday event to determine which team will represent the region in the national finals for the bowl. Regional competitions began in January, including the middle school-level Pantex Science Bowl in Amarillo, with the winning team from each qualifying regional competition eligible to compete in the national finals to be held in Washington D.C.

The top two middle and high school teams will win $5,000 for their schools’ math and science departments, said organizers, with other schools in the top 16 in the national finals winning $1,000 for their schools’ science departments.
